School of Medicine Summer Scholars Program

The Scholars Summer Program gives you the opportunity to learn more about a career in health care. We have four program tracks: one for undergraduate students and three for high school students. From gaining additional knowledge in the basic sciences to experiencing clinical rotations, you will spend several weeks investigating health care as a profession. Participants will have a chance to design and work on a research project, shadow a variety of physicians, and learn more about careers in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry.

This is a free program that will be held in a virtual format in 2021

Program Tracks:

  • Traditional High School Scholars (2 Weeks)
  • Advanced High School Scholars for Returners (2 Weeks)
  • STAHR High School Scholars (6 weeks)
  • Scholarship Opportunity Track
  • STAHR Undergraduate Scholars (6 Weeks)
  • Scholarship Opportunity Track

Eligibility for the programs:

Preference is given to students who are from traditionally underrepresented communities and who live in the Kansas City metro area. In order to be eligible to participate, students will need to be from an economically or educationally disadvantaged background. Students may also be considered if they will be the first student in their family to attend college or (for undergraduates) if they are the first person in their family to attend.

  • Currently-enrolled high school junior, high school senior, or undergraduate student
  • Interest in pursuing a health profession
  • *Economically disadvantaged OR **educationally disadvantaged
  • Good academic standing
  • United States Citizens or Permanent Resident
