It's Time For UMKC's Four Annual UMKC Engagement Month
Each October, we invite you to join us for UMKC Engagement Month- a special time when we come together to celebrate the rich tapestry of our community and campus partnerships and their impact on our region. From lectures and performances to continuing education workshops and family-friendly gatherings, there's something for everyone to enjoy. In fact, we've curated over 70 events during the coming weeks open to the broader community, demonstrating why we are proud to call ourselves Kansas City's Univeristy!
Make sure to check out our full lineup of events!
Within UMKC Engagment Month, you'll find a host of programming related to UM System Extension and Engagement Week and this year's theme of "All Things Youth". Several pieces of our Engagment Month program reflect this theme, including our new feature on the Conservatory Bridges Program.
Since its founding in 2007, the UMKC Conservatory Bridges program has worked with hundreds of youth in 36 schools across the Kansas City metropolitan area. There, they provide one-on-one instruction, sheet music, supplies, and even musical instruments through partnerships with local nonprofits. Most of the program’s graduating seniors have gone on to college, some receiving significant scholarships for their musical skills. Many Bridges students have joined the UMKC Conservatory to pursue degrees in music education, composition, as well as instrumental and voice performance. While quality performing arts education can take place through ensemble instruction at the pre-collegiate level, the ability to reach the highest levels of artistry in music almost always depends on individual mentorship provided through one-on-one lessons. You can learn more more about Conservatory Bridges and the impact it is making in the video below.
