Three presentations will take place in the final exhibition of Bingham Gallery’s Spring season at a reception on April 25, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The 2024 Senior Showcase, titled Nascent Spaces, is a culminating exhibit of graduating BA and BFA students in the School of Visual Studies Art Program, and will feature an “art fair” booth style installation in both the Bingham and the Josephine Galleries in the Fine Arts Building on the University of Missouri’s Columbia campus. The exhibition is on view April 22 – May 10, 2024. Participating artists: Camilla Almaguer, Fiorella Almaguer, Christine Amling, Natalie Anglen, Abby Botts, Gabby Daugherty, Meaghan Fleming, Lydia France, Sophie Froese, Abby Harpenau, Elly Hood, Felix Hook, Zekkiah Hird, Malik Ibdah, Esra Jackson, Madolyn Jewell, Cierra Logan, Bailey Neighbor, Bekah Selkoe, Gage Shrout, Olivia Whitesell, Alonzo Williams. Purchase prizes will be awarded by the Department of Sociology.
OPEN/WORK: MU’s Museum Studies Lab, adjacent to the Bingham Gallery, will host In Her Own Words curated by Cierra Logan, and features the work of students: Avery Dixon Cierra Logan, and Sophie Froese. The artists explore female agency informed by their own background and experiences, mentored by Art History faculty Anne Stanton and Kristin Schwain.
At the reception, readings from the 7th Annual LED (Literature Emitting Diodes) Competition Winners: Esra Jackson; 1st runner-up: Courtney Kissee; 2nd runner-up: Mia Judd; 3rd runner-up: Camay Robison. All events are free and open to the public, regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The class of 2024 is a cross section of emergent creatives that has developed their own independent practice during their time at Mizzou and as they continue to work in preparing to enter the professional world where they will continue to forge connections throughout their careers. A radically diverse class, that represents a nascent cohort of powerful storytellers exploring topics such as identity, conflict, and humanity.
Established in 2017, the MU School of Visual Studies merges four disciplines: art, art history, film studies, and digital storytelling. This dynamic program aims to graduate future generations of outstanding critical thinkers, inventive problem solvers, and makers of conscientious, well-crafted art while preparing them for professional careers in the contemporary art world.
