The UMSL Advocacy Leadership Program is a free program offered to introduce rising 9th through 12th-grade students to the many career paths available in child advocacy. The program will include an introduction to child advocacy and all the powerful forms such can take, including service as a child welfare worker, a children’s detective, a mental health clinician, an educator, a medical or court professional, or a legislative advocate. In addition to the major of Applied Psychology of Child Advocacy Studies, students will be introduced to the many related possible fields of study including social work, criminal justice, education, and nursing. Students will also be exposed to core concepts in the field, including cultural competency and secondary stress reduction.
