Amabie: Pandemic and Pantheon

With the rise of COVID 19, an obscure yōkai from the Edo period was plucked from the distant past to become a symbol of hope. A strange, birdlike mer-creature that had once risen from the oceans to deliver a prophecy and promise of protection. Join Zack Davisson to learn about Amabie, mushi, and other Japanese yōkai that appeared during times of famine and crisis. See how modern folklore was created in real time, right before our eyes, using the modern medium of transmission, the internet. You may even be inspired to share your own version of the healing Amabie.
