The Arianna String Quartet invites audiences on a cinematic musical journey in an evening dedicated to three composers whose works have significantly influenced and appeared in films, blending sound and imagery into compelling storytelling. Janáček’s Quartet No. 2, Intimate Letters, featured in the 1988 film The Unbearable Lightness of Being, captures a narrative of love, passion, and obsessive devotion. American composer Caroline Shaw brings a distinctive voice to both the concert stage and screen with her evocative and colorful work, including Valencia (2012), known for its blend of complexity and hope. Erich Korngold, a pioneer in bringing compositional brilliance to Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s, is celebrated for his lush film scores. To conclude their 2024–25 St. Louis season, the Arianna String Quartet welcomes renowned pianist Judith Gordon for a performance of Korngold’s seldom-heard Piano Quintet in E Major, Op. 15, offering a sensational and imaginative finale to the series.
Tickets range from $10 - $30.
