Join us for an enlightening discussion featuring the insights of Dr. Cynthia Watson and Dr. Bernard Cole, scholars with a combined fifty years of experience with China.
Dr. Cynthia Watson (B.A. History ’78) will explore the domestic policy concerns of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) leadership, such as China’s economic model, internal security, gender imbalance, and declining population.
Additionally, Dr. Bernard Cole will discuss the Chinese military's response to U.S. efforts in the Asia Pacific. The event is free, but registration is required.
About the Speakers
Cynthia Watson taught at the National War College for thirty years before retiring in 2022. Her final College position was Dean of Faculty & Academic Programs. The National Defense University President asked her to delay retirement to serve as NDU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. She has written extensively on national security but is most interested in China's modernization challenges.
Bernard Cole served thirty years in the U.S. Navy and twenty years as a civilian at the National War College. He wrote the first authoritative volume on the Chinese Navy, The Great Wall at Sea (2002), followed by several additional books on the topic. His latest publication is a novel, Red Shark at Sea (available on Amazon.com). He is currently writing a novel on Vietnam.
