What’s Growth Got to Do With It? An Economist on Human Wellbeing

Sirisha C. Naidu, Ph.D., professor

Department of Economics

Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.-noon

Nov. 6, 13 and 20

UMKC Administrative Center, Brookside Room

$40 ($55 with parking permit)

The first session covers the mania of economic growth and the framework underlying its vaunted position in our society. The second session delves into what it is that we might value as a local and global community. It offers two different frameworks — one presented by Amartya Sen, a Nobel laureate, and the other offered by feminist and ecological economists. The third session explores alternative measures of human wellbeing that incorporate broader measures of welfare and how we might advocate for these. All three sessions will cover the U.S. and international economies.
