The Opioid Epidemic: A Statewide Response- Session 2

Join us for the second session in a two-part conversation on the opioid epidemic. We’ll discuss various approaches to addressing this health emergency in both urban and rural settings and find out how the average Missourian can get involved.

The Opioid Epidemic: A Statewide Response- Session 2

UM System's 2021 Extension and Engagement Week kicks off with a series of moderated panels on the national opioid epidemic.  

The first session gathers key faculty from all four UM System institutions to set the foundation for this important discussion. Together, they'll discuss the current landscape in Missouri's urban and rural communities, explore the brain science behind addiction, and share how the UM system contributes expertise in this field- from spearheading national coalitions to forming small-town partnerships.  

Panelists include: 

  • Brett Froeliger, TITLE 
  • Lisa Carter, Senior Project Manager, UMKC’s Collaborative to Advance Health Services and Technology Transfer Specialist, HHS Region 7 Opioid Response Network 
  • Dr. Rachel Winograd, Associate Professor, UMSL Department of Psychological Sciences/ Missouri Institute of Mental Health 
  • Dr. Clair Kueny, Assistant Professor Psychological Science, Missouri S&T 

In our second session, we will dive deeper into the various approaches to solving this problem with UM system community partners from across the state. Both sessions will be moderated by Jon Stemmle, Professor of Strategic Communication at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
