The Kansas City Health Equity Collaborative (KC HEC) held its first meeting on June 24, 2020, which included people with disabilities, family members, and professionals who work for/with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The KC HEC team used the virtual kickoff to provide a project overview of the purpose, planned activities for the year, and expectations for membership in the group. The project aims to elevate the voice of the disability community within the healthcare system through participatory action and community education about health disparities and equity. It is a two-year project funded by the Health Forward Foundation.
