The Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership & Heart to Heart International’s Journey to Perfecting Internships: A Case Study

The Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership hosts a summer internship program each year, and three years ago one of its interns was placed at Heart to Heart International (HHI). What began as an effort to demonstrate that an intern could be a true value-add—rather than an added burden—has evolved into an organizational success story. Today, multiple HHI departments eagerly compete to host an intern.
This session highlights how the partnership grew, the practices developed, and the strategies refined to create high-impact internship experiences that benefit both students and the organization.
