Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation Programs
MIDE currently executes five major research, development, test, and evaluation programs funded by Department of Defense awards:
- Three Office of Naval Research sponsored efforts
- One Army Research Laboratory sponsored effort
- One US Special Operations Command sponsored effort
- One US Air Force Central Command sponsored effort
Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation Projects
MIDE-associated researchers currently execute or are pursuing awards for research, development, test, and evaluation efforts within 49 Small Business Innovated Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Department of Defense entity funding partners:
- Ten cross-service component-sponsored efforts
- Twenty four Department of the Air Force component-sponsored efforts
- One Department of the Army component-sponsored efforts
- Eleven Department of the Navy component-sponsored efforts
- Three US Special Operations Command-sponsored efforts
Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program
MIDE executes the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program funded by an award to UMKC from the US Department of Agriculture. The program is 100% focused on veterans. All 22 current participants are veterans, active duty, or reserve component service members from the surrounding Kansas City area. The program's goal is to train at least 50 military veterans in controlled environment agriculture systems during the US Department of Agriculture award's period of performance.
The three main objectives of this program are:
- Recruit and retain 50 military veteran beginning farmers
- Transition at least 50% of MVBF to agricultural or farm-STEM part- or full-time employment opportunities
- Develop a veteran, urban, organic, and sustainable-focused pilot program that can be replicated at future VCP site locations by guaranteeing a market for specialty crops.

MIDE has an ongoing connection with 15 Department of Defense-associated transitioning service member educational programs:

- Veterans to Energy Careers(VTEC) [ONR]: 10 program participants per semester
