Missouri S&T is preparing to launch new bachelor’s and master’s degrees in data science to meet the rising demand for professionals who can interpret complex statistics and large datasets.
The University of Missouri Board of Curators has approved the proposal, which will now move to the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education for final review.
Provost Dr. John Harris says the program aligns well with S&T’s strengths, as the university already offers nearly all necessary coursework. The degrees will be delivered jointly through the mathematics and statistics and computer science departments, creating a strong multidisciplinary foundation. Students will study statistics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and programming to prepare for careers in high-growth fields such as health care, finance, research, and information technology.
