The Institute is open to students entering grades 9-12 and entering college freshmen. Sixteen composers will be selected to participate.
To comply with COVID safety precautions and University of Missouri regulations, we will be conducting this year’s Missouri Summer Composition Institute virtually. Students will still receive the same level of instruction and interaction with our faculty, and will be able to hear the Khemia Ensemble bring their compositions to life.
Activities include:
- Daily Notation, Instrumentation, and Repertoire Courses: students will meet together over Zoom each day for courses in notation, repertoire, instrumentation, and audio production, taught by MU’s world-class Music Composition faculty.
- Daily Private Composition Lessons: Each student will have daily online one-on-one meetings with their Composition instructor to get feedback on their works-in-progress.
- Workshops with members of the Khemia Ensemble: Members of the Khemia Ensemble will host online workshops demonstrating tips and tricks for instrumental writing.
- Remote Chamber Music Recording workshop: Students will learn the basics of audio editing, how to generate a click track, and how to compile the Khemia Ensemble’s recordings of their separate instrumental parts into a polished final product.
Because of the online format, we’re waiving tuition fees for this year. All accepted students will be able to participate absolutely FREE.
