In search of meaning and significance, Pippin - the prince son of King Charlemagne - joins his father’s army, only to become disillusioned by the horrors of war. Retreating to the countryside in pursuit of a simple, pleasurable life, he soon grows restless once again and becomes convinced that leading a revolution against his father’s tyrannical rule will bring him fulfillment.
