Join UMSL Music for a concert celebrating the works of Italian composer Rosario Scalero and two of his distinguished protégés, Gian Carlo Menotti and Luigi Zaninelli. The concert will feature performances of unpublished vocal works, Menotti’s complete song cycles, and chamber works for strings by Scalero and Zaninelli.
The performance features world-renowned soprano Christine Brewer, UMSL Director of Vocal Studies Bethany Worrell, pianist Alla Voskoboynikova, the Arianna String Quartet, and guest cellist Elisabeth Logan. Run time is 2 hours including intermission.
This concert is part of the three-day Scalero Legacy Festival, honoring one of the twentieth century’s most influential composition teachers. In addition to the concert, festival events include a scholarly lecture on Scalero’s life and pedagogical legacy, a public interview with Brewer and Zaninelli reflecting on their work with Menotti and Scalero, and a masterclass featuring UMSL voice students performing Zaninelli’s art songs under the composer’s guidance.
The Scalero Legacy Festival is supported by the UMSL Research Award.
