The SPARK Flossie Pack Center for Lifelong Learning

Senior Peers Actively Renewing Knowledge, known as SPARK, provides classes and events for older adults.

Resource
The SPARK Flossie Pack Center for Lifelong Learning

The SPARK Flossie Pack Center for Lifelong Learning is a non-profit organization supporting life-long learning. The organization was established in 1993 and became an official affiliate of UMKC in 1997. SPARK provides learning opportunities to older adults by offering course-based instruction at a modest cost and with low barriers to entry, such as no prerequisites or exams.

SPARK members can participate in classes, book groups, and tours. Each quarter a list of planned classes and events is published, allowing members to enroll in their interests.

Typically courses would take place in person at SPARK's Flossie Pack Center for Lifelong Learning, but since the pandemic began, SPARK has introduced Zoom courses and video on demand options through YouTube.

Recently, SPARK received a large donation from the Pack family which will help support the organization’s continued operations.

For more information on the SPARK program, visit their site by clicking here.

Impact

SPARK provides around eight course offerings each quarter for its 200 members to participate in.
