Shining a Light: 21st-Century Music from Underrepresented Composers

UMKC Conservatory students will perform selections by underrepresented twenty-first-century composers in a concert at UMKC’s Miller Nichols Library.

This concert will be held on the Library’s first floor, in the iX Theatre.

Address: 800 E. 51st St. Kansas City, MO 64110

Performances include:

 Libertango (2002) - Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), arr. Jeff Scott (b. 1967). Performed by Plaza Winds: Emily Boschen (flute), Isabella Currie (oboe), Stephen Borodkin (clarinet), Dennis Pearson (bassoon), Brianna Volkmann (horn)

Great Camelot (2016) - Juliana Hall (b. 1958). Performed by Riley Buck (voice) and Jared Agee (piano)

Gavel Patter (2004) - Libby Larsen (b. 1950). Performed by Esther Han and Andreas Landstedt (4-hands piano)

Copperwave (2006) - Joan Tower (b. 1938). Performed by Volker Brass: William Landon (trumpet), Samuel Milam (trumpet), Szymon Rywalski (horn), Kyam McCormack (trombone), Patrick Yeh (tuba)

Memory (for flute) (2016) - Chen Yi (b. 1953). Performed by Melanie Rodriguez Diaz (flute)

Electric Aroma (2018) - Viet Cuong (b. 1990). Performed by Leslie Hisman (Flute), Elena Collins (clarinet), Abby Foehrkolb (percussion), and Beth Christensen (piano)
