Social Justice Book Discussion: Earth Democracy

Join the UMKC Libraries for a discussion of the 2021 Social Justice Book and Lecture Series book, Earth Democracy: Justice, Sustainability, and Peace by Vandana Shiva.

UMKC Teaching & Learning Librarian and Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Tracey Hughes will lead a live, virtual book discussion of Shiva's Earth Democracy on October 14 from noon - 1:30 p.m.

An environmental activist of global importance and a prolific author, Shiva shares with us in Earth Democracy her ideals for the planet Earth: our connection to it, the effects of corporate globalization on it, and the importance of protecting it and being sustained by it. The focus of the book discussion will be helping attendees articulate their understanding of the connections between human rights, global economies, and environmental equity. Our virtual conversation will be guided by librarian and discussion leader, Tracey Hughes. Using questions and prompts prepared by Tracey, participants will interact with the material and each other in a variety of ways that will lead us to examine our own connections to Earth Democracy's themes.

Check out a copy of Earth Democracy from the UMKC Libraries, or log in with your UMKC username and password to read the eBook online or download it to your device.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Join us!
