Fourteen researchers associated with Missouri S&T are listed as the most prolific contributors in their topics from 2019 to 2023 in Scopus — a multidisciplinary abstract and citation database and website, scopus.com, maintained by the Elsevier publishing company.
“Having multiple S&T faculty members noted as the top publishers for their fields is yet another indicator showing we are truly home to some of the world’s best, most active researchers,” says Dr. Kamal Khayat, S&T’s vice chancellor for research and innovation. “When researchers come to our Rolla, Missouri, campus, we are proud to provide them with the resources they need to be successful and highlight their great accomplishments.”
The Scopus database is used for various fields across academia, including life sciences, social sciences, physical sciences and health sciences.
Scholarly literature included in Scopus’s dataset is organized into tens of thousands of topics by SciVal — an analytics tool Elsevier developed in 2014 to identify research trends and compare the research performance of different individuals and institutions. Earlier this year, SciVal updated its topics list to allow its users to find more precise results.
Researchers from over 24,000 institutions across 230-plus nations are included in the data analyzed by SciVal.
Missouri S&T-affiliated researchers listed as the top author for a topic include:
- Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and Wayne and Gayle Laufer Endowed Chair in Energy, tied for “Bubble Columns; Fluid Dynamics; Hydrodynamics.”
- Dr. Baojun Bai, Curators’ Distinguished Professor and Lester R. Birbeck Chair in Petroleum Engineering, for “Oil Well; Microsphere; Gelation.”
- Dr. Nuran Ercal, Chancellor’s Professor of chemistry, tied for “Oxidopamine; Parkinson’s Disease; Striatum.”
- Dr. Hanqing “Chevy” Fang, associate professor of business and information technology, tied for “China; Twentieth Century; Industry.”
- Dr. Mahelet Fikru, professor of economics, for “Horizontal Integration; Takeover; Merger.”
- Dr. Jie Huang, Roy A. Wilkens Telecommunications Associate Professor of electrical engineering, tied for “Optical Fiber; Fabry-Perot Interferometer; Fiber Optic Sensor.”
- Dr. Abdulmohsin Imqam, former assistant professor of petroleum engineering, for “Fracturing; Fluid Viscosity; Hydraulics” and “Carbon Dioxide; Oil Well; Petroleum Reservoir.”
- Dr. Simon Lekakh, research professor emeritus of metallurgical engineering, for “Cast Iron; Exhaust Manifolds; Creep.”
