Kaley Ware, a senior economics major at UMSL, interned with Missouri Senator Josh Hawley last summer, researching energy and natural resources policies. Her work even informed Senate debates. Ware was one of five UMSL students who shared their internship experiences at a recent panel, highlighting how internships enhance learning and professional growth. Other panelists included Angela Truesdale, Kel Gruber, Janiah Henderson, and Andrew Price, who discussed their impactful internships in industries like aerospace, geoscience, sport management, and nonprofit work.
UMSL’s internship program is part of its commitment to high-impact practices that improve academic success. Internships are beneficial across disciplines, offering real-world experience and networking opportunities. For instance, Truesdale applied her accounting skills at Boeing, while Gruber worked on AI projects with government scientists. Price gained experience in sports management, and Henderson discovered the value of working for a nonprofit. UMSL’s alumni and supporters play a key role in connecting students to such opportunities, fostering career growth and professional relationships.
