This presentation will emphasize the long-term trend in shifting power relations among the two principal groups in Northern Ireland, unionists and nationalists. From this theoretical perspective, one can perceive the period after the Good Friday Agreement as a transition from unionist dominance, to power-sharing, to the ascent of nationalists in power within Northern Ireland as well as the historic reduction of British interest and control over Northern Ireland.
