Along with being the dean of the School of Medicine, Jackson is a pediatric infectious diseases expert with research focusing on vaccine implementation, judicious use of antibiotics, and prevention of antibiotic-resistant infections. She is one of six physicians statewide advising Missouri Governor Mike Parson during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Infectious Diseases Executive Committee recognized Jackson for her work and awarded her the 2019 Award for Lifetime Contribution in Infectious Diseases Education.
