The UMKC School of Dentistry offers children under the age of three free initial exams year-round at their pediatric clinic. “That exam is recommended by the time a child is 12 months old, or when the first tooth starts appearing,” said Brenda Bohaty, D.D.S., chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.
Bohaty adds “The benefits of dental health for overall health can’t be overemphasized.” According to the CDC, Tooth Decay is the most prevalent disease for children age 6 to 11. Most cases are preventable with proper oral hygiene and limiting sugar intake.
“We want every child to have a healthy start, and we hope parents take advantage of our free initial checkups for children under three,” Bohaty said.
