The University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) has partnered with BAE Systems to enhance the geospatial workforce in the region. This collaboration will create scholarships, internships, and provide students and faculty access to BAE’s GXP® software. Reda Amer, director of UMSL’s Geospatial Collaborative, emphasized the importance of this partnership in expanding educational and career opportunities for students studying remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS).
BAE Systems is supporting a $2,500 annual scholarship for students in UMSL’s GIS certificate program and will offer internship opportunities to those with GIS skills. The partnership will also involve training workshops on GXP software, which includes a wide range of geospatial technologies. Keith Barber, BAE’s director for strategies and engagements, highlighted how this collaboration would help students gain hands-on experience with advanced geospatial tools, preparing them for future career paths in various industries like agriculture, energy, and public policy.
