Uniting Veterans with Service Dogs has gone through several evolutions. When the program launched, veterans trained the dogs to be partnered with fellow veterans who have post-traumatic stress disorder. Then ReCHAI teamed up with Veterans United, whose employees trained the dogs. At the conclusion of that collaboration, it reached out to Mizzou’s ROTC program, whose leadership identified cadets interested in training the dogs. The program has trained and placed dogs for five years, but this collaboration with Veterans United Home Loans extends reach considerably.
Uniting Veterans with Service Dogs
In collaboration with Veterans United Home Loans, we are training post-traumatic stress service dogs for US military veterans. The dogs come from animal shelters, are pre-trained in basic obedience at the Boonville Prison, and then are trained on the special skills to help a veteran. The program matches the veteran with the dog through careful assessment.
