Join us for an engaging presentation where we’ll dive into the role of decodable texts, why they matter, and how they fit into a well-rounded reading experience. You’ll walk away with practical tips on how to support a child’s reading at home or in a tutoring session and help them become both skilled and joyful readers.

Why use decodable texts?

Decodable texts play a crucial role in helping young readers transition from sounding out letters to reading fluently by reinforcing phonics skills. These carefully designed books build confidence and strengthen letter-sound connections. However, they are just one part of a comprehensive reading journey. To foster a true love for reading, children also need exposure to engaging stories, nonfiction, and books that ignite curiosity. This presentation will explore the importance of decodable texts, how they fit into a comprehensive reading approach, and practical strategies for supporting children's literacy development at home.

This is part of a regional effort to prepare high quality teachers and tutors to teach reading and literacy.
