Writers @ Play: A Summer Writing Camp

Where is the camp? What time does the camp start?

The camp is at The Gate Church at 6746 Etzel Ave, University City, MO 63130. Programming runs from June 9th - 13th starting at 8:30 and going until 3:00, but parents can drop off as early as 8:00 am.

How much does it cost?

The cost for the week is $225. If financial constraints would prevent you from attending the program, please apply for our need-based scholarship.

Does my child need to bring lunch?

Your child will need to bring a sack lunch. We will have daily snacks and pizza on Friday, but they will need to bring lunch Monday - Thursday.

What will my child be doing?

Your child will be involved in a variety of play-based writing experiences. They will explore various play stations, participate in community-building activities, and engage in multi-genre writing.

What does a typical day look like?

A typical day includes time to explore stations and writing through play, a genre specific mini lesson, working with a small group to build community, and optional writing share.

What if my kid doesn’t like to write?

Loving writing is NOT a prerequisite for participating. The play-based nature of the experience, community building activities, and identity exercises will encourage your child to take risks and see writing as something that is fun and accessible.
