Girls’ Adventures in Mathematics Competition

UMSL hosts the GAIM competition each April for teams of 4 girls in the 3rd-8th grade who have pre-registered for the event. The youngsters and their supervising adult (parent, teacher, or coach) come to campus for two rounds of competition and free time in a game room where they explore mathematical concepts through play and art.

Impact

Many girls tend to shy away from mathematics in late-elementary school and middle school. This often carries with them through the rest of their educational experiences. The GAIM event helps promote female interest in mathematics. At the event, girls get to explore the joy in mathematics, challenge their intellectual abilities, and learn about prominent females in history from various cultures around the globe
