Move More Get More

Move More Get More is a collaboration between UMKC, KC Public Schools, KC Parks, and Recreation, Children’s Mercy Hospital, and Truman Medical Center to increase physical activity and nutrition in middle school students. Students have the opportunity to engage in weekly live “Move Sessions” led by KC Parks and Rec and have access to weekly produce bags coordinated by Truman Medical Center’s Mobile Market! All students receive Garmin accelerometers, sports equipment, and the opportunity to earn more as they move more. We aim to serve 150 middle school students in the 2020-2021 school year. Due to the pandemic Move Sessions are provided virtually. Move More Get More is funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health (OMH), and the Office of Women’s Health (OWH). Drs. Amanda Grimes and Joseph Lightner are Co-PIs for this project.

Impact

Since programming initiated in Spring 2020, the program has reached more than 100 middle school students in KC Public Schools.
