Students in Dr. Rebecca Mott’s Agricultural Education and Leadership Program Development course have the opportunity to partner with student collaborators from the University of Illinois College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. Together, these student teams engage virtually with a variety of stakeholders from the mid-west to develop training and educational programs.
Mott and Assistant Professor Amy Leman, University of Illinois, received an Innovative Teaching Award from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) in 2020 that helps fund this innovative approach to program development. The benefit of this engaging approach to program development is that it provides students the opportunity to make new connections with students at a different university and work with industry professionals outside of their institutions.
In the spring of 2021, students worked with 6 different stakeholder groups to develop 7 new programs. Several of the stakeholders that students engaged with, including Missouri’s Ag Ed on the Move program, are making plans to launch components of these collaboratively developed programs in the fall of 2021.
