Workforce Summit

The Labor and Workforce Summit is a forum for businesses, organizations, and community leaders to build a network for information, resources, and connections that help to cultivate a reliable workforce. This is an opportunity to connect with a strong support network and gain insights from industry leaders.

Workforce Summit

The MU Extension Labor and Workforce Development Summit convened local and regional workforce development partners to identify workforce needs. Partners in economic development, public education, community development, technical and community colleges, city and county leaders, and labor union representatives came together to highlight employment and training programs and navigate workforce and education partnerships to explore opportunities and services available in the region. The Summit provides an opportunity for workforce development partners to engage around preparing an educated and skilled workforce and to identify business needs. These discussions center around what we hear in our communities that can be addressed through labor and workforce development partnerships.

Impact

Rob Harrington, Texas County Economic Development Director said it best, “We have wanted to do something like the Labor and Workforce Development Summit for a long time and we just never did.” The Labor and Workforce Development Summits held in Joplin and Houston created an opportunity for labor and workforce development, as well as community and economic development actors to learn about workforce training and education programs in their communities and to engage with one another around labor and workforce topics that are important to their community and their region. The Summit activities built new relationships and energized existing relationships that have continued to develop around labor and workforce development across the state.
